Mac OS is Mavericks. Via chrome 9 hc igp review. I am not able to get DTS sound out. I have tried both a blu ray disc (with a external blu ray player and Aurora player) and a MKV file with VLC.

Any ideas if it is possible and how to do it. I only play back rips of my blu ray discs, and never the disc itself, so I can't be any help with respect to your first question.
In the home theater VLC is my player of absolute last resort and I am not yet on Mavericks. First, though, do you mean DTS or DTS HD? There's a difference between the two in terms of home theater playback in OS X.
Ubuntu drivers for wireless. This depends on your setup, there are many options available to you, use wine (probably not the best option) use cadega***(most likely the best option)*** use crossover office (probably not the best option) use crossover games ***(most likely the best option)*** no matter what you do I encourage everyone who reads this to contact blizzard (the WoW parent company) and encourage them to support a Linux client or work with the community to develop an open source alternative for communicating with their server.
Plain old 'lossy' DTS should be no problem at all. What software did you use to make the.mkv that you're trying to play with VLC? If you used something like MakeMKV the core DTS should still be there which means that's what will be decoded and played back by most front end software like XBMC, which is what I use, since DTS-HD is not supported by OS X. You'd have to boot up in Ubuntu or Windows if you want to pass actual DTS-HD to your receiver. Over the years some workarounds have been developed to convert the DTS-HD audio to another form of lossless, like LPCM or FLAC, which can then be passed over HDMI but they've always seemed too convoluted for me, I find the core DTS perfectly fine. Recently discussed here. I only play back rips of my blu ray discs, and never the disc itself, so I can't be any help with respect to your first question.
